Inc. Attracts Joel J. Smith, M.D. and Farshad M. Ahadian,
M.D. to Scientific Advisory Board
San Diego, Ca – June 1, 2005 –
Bioelectric Medical Solutions, Inc. (BMSI) continues
to assemble a leading group of scientific and clinical
experts to guide the research and development of its
consumer-oriented, breakthrough miniaturization of
microcurrent electrical stimulation technology. The
company announced today the appointment of Joel J.
Smith, M.D. and Farshad M. Ahadian, M.D. its Scientific
Advisory Board.
Joel J. Smith, M.D. is an Assistant Clinical
Professor in Orthopaedics at University California
San Diego. Board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery
Joel joined the faculty of Orthopaedic Surgery at
UCSD in October 2003. He is also a member of the Orthopaedic
Trauma Service. Previous to this, he was on the faculties
of the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University
of Minnesota and Hennepin County Medical Center in
Minneapolis, MN. His major area of interest for the
past five years has been the treatment of complex
knee and periarticular injuries. Dr. Smith’s
training in sports medicine and trauma has helped
him develop a comprehensive approach to the treatment
and rehabilitation of these difficult problems.
Dr. Smith received his medical degree
from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. His
Internship in General Surgery took place at Dartmouth-Hitchcock
Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. From there he completed
a Research Fellowship in Biomechanics at the Biomechanics
Laboratory at the University of Minnesota and his
residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. He then went on
to complete a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at Ulleval
Hospital in Oslo, Norway. His current hospital affiliations
include UCAD Thornton Hospital in LaJolla, CA and
UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, CA.
Farshad Ahadian, M.D. is currently an
Associate Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at
the University of California, San Diego School of
Medicine and is part of the staff of the Center for
Pain and Palliative Medicine at UCSD. He is board
certified in Pain Management, Anesthesia and Medical
Acupuncture. He has been involved in the management
of acute, chronic and cancer pain since 1994. Prior
to joining the UCSD Pain Management Medical Group
in 1999 he established the Pain Management Clinic
at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force
Base. A practicing medical acupuncturist, Dr. Ahadain
has been a clinical instructor for the UCLA Medical
Acupuncture for Physicians program since 1996. He
also pursues original research in pain medicine and
is in the process of developing an experimental pain
model for studying acupuncture analgesia.
Dr. Ahadian received his medical degree
from St. Louis University School of Medicine and his
anesthesiology training at Wilford Hall Medical Center.
He is currently affiliated with UCSD Thornton Hospital
in La Jolla and UCSD Medical Center Hillcrest.
